I want this to be a post about my latest creation, an absolutely stunning shawl designed by my girlfriend Laura, but I’ve been sick the last few days and haven’t even felt up to photographing it. However, I do have FO’s to share from December.
Pattern: Greenery Hat by Lilith Parker
Yarn: Classic Elite Waterspun; Blue Spruce; Needles: 4.5 mm / US 7
Yarn: Cascade 220 Superwash; 816 Grey & 819 Brown; Needles: 4.0 mm / US 6
I liked this hat pattern so much, I made 3 of them and kept one for myself. The hat knit up quickly and easily and all the hats seemed to fit quite well. I love the color of the Classic Elite yarn. Although the yarn is discontinued, I really quite liked it. You can’t tell in the photos, but it had a felted quality about it.
Pattern: Chevalier Mittens by Tikru
Source: MadeByMyself and Ravelry
Yarn: Cascade 220 Superwash; 816 Grey; Needles: 4.5 mm/ US 7
Yarn: Cascade 220 Superwash; 819 Brown; Needles: 3.75 mm / US 5
Yarn: Classic Elite Waterspun; Blue Spruce; Needles: 3.75 mm / US 5
Grey Mitten Modifications: I omitted rows 75 – 78 and modified the top decrease section as explained by Storm Moon Knits.
Brown & Blue Mitten Modifications: I omitted rows 29-32 and 75-78 and modified the top decrease section as explained by Storm Moon Knits.
Unfortunately they all ended up being too long even with omitting the rows and going down a needle size. The worst part though was that I lost one of the grey ones on my drive home from Idaho back to California. I swear, somedays it’s a good thing my head is attached.
The brown gloves and hat went to my middle sister for her December birthday. She had originally requested fingerless gloves with mitten tops, but after attempting to knit those twice, I gave up. When I saw the Chevalier Mitten pattern, I hoped the cable design would help her forget her original request. She called me just a few days ago and asked for more gloves and hats. Obviously she likes them.
The blue/green gloves and hat went to my sister 14 months younger than I for her September birthday. I know, I was a teensy bit late. I don’t know if she uses them or not since she hasn’t spoken to me since the fiasco at my mom’s house 6 weeks ago. Had I know she was going to say such hurtful things to me two days after I gave them to her, I would have kept them. I’ve always had a policy to only knit for those that would appreciate the love & care I put into a hand knit item. Unfortunately I don’t think she understands that. What’s that saying, “once bitten, twice shy?”
Wow, I bow to you for having the fortitude to knit three identical hats and three pairs of identical mittens in short order. Well done!
You remind me of somebody that knit the same pair of mittens 6 times. No, not me, I only did the endpapers 3 times. But you must really like the pattern. Hope you feel better soon too. We are all in the same boat, cough, sneeze.
Stunning!
I, too, admire your fortitude in knitting all those items with all those cables! I couldn’t do it. They are all stunning items and I’m sure were excellent gifts.
I certainly hope that your sister is wearing the hat and mittens and that she is thinking about you when she does. I hope that at least they can play a small role in helping you reconcile (if that’s what you want to happen, of course).
Great stuff you’ve knit there. I hope the flu has left the buillding. I was also hoping that the family situation had worked itself out. I’m here if you need to vent.
Those are beautiful sets! I must also comment on being able to knit the same hat and mitten pattern 3 times each. Wow.
Shame about your little sis. Maybe she’ll appreciate things more as she gets older?
I love the mitten/hat sets, gf. Bummer about you loosing that one. I’m glad that one sister likes them, anyway! Score there. 😀
Lucky me, I got to see these in person! They are really beautiful. I love cables, they keep things interesting.
I am glad I left town before things turned ugly, it really is such a shame that things are still unresolved between you two.
I love the hats and mittens! I am tempted to knit both myself. I am glad that one sister does love and appreciate your knitting. I can totally relate to how you feel on that subject. Hopefully the other one will come around soon. The pain such things cause is soooo not worth it.
What amazing and lovely work. I am so sad you lost one. ugh ugh ugh. The head attatched thing is a daily thought here in my house! Great images posted, amazing knitting
I always say this, but you do SUCH amazing work!

I love love love the hats! I’m also in a groove of making things three at a time, so I think I’ll be working up some Greenery very soon.
I haven’t seen the Greenery hat before, I love it! Such pretty cables. And you chose lovely colors.
Those are wonderful and amazing! The sets are awesome!
Families can really suck sometimes; I’m sorry you are having a tough time with yours. You do not deserve it!
Your hats and mittens are beautiful.
Beautiful sets! I love them!
I am sorry about the family issues. Half of my family doesn’t speak to the other half and I hate it. I am so glad that my sister and I are good friends.
I love those hats! I can’t wait to start one of my own.
